SARASOTA, Fla. – The New College of Florida Banyans took down the Falcons 4-0 this past Thursday.
The match was off to a slow start while both teams were getting a feel for each other. The game was evenly balanced before Joel Flyviq fired home a loose ball bouncing around the 6-yard box lifting the Banyans up 1-0. The Banyans shifted to hold more possession after their first goal and were rewarded with their second goal of the game after Arthur Prado found Fabian Donal just outside the 6-yard box and slotted home the Banyans' second goal of the game.
The second half brought more trouble for the Falcons as Sebastian Pedraza received a pass from Jose Gutierrez and beat Florida College's keeper Ahiezer Santiago at his near post in the 56th minute. Florida College continued to struggle when a miscommunication left keeper Santiago stranded out of his box, and Kais Sabic lofted the ball into the empty net, putting the win out of reach. The Falcons managed 8 shots to the Banyans 15, but despite the score, the Falcons showed some potential in this game.
"This was obviously not the start we wanted, but I always want to look at the positives. Every game is an opportunity to grow whether you win or lose, and that is what we are going to do here!" said senior Austin Black. "We are going to look back at the film analyze it and grow, and I have full confidence in my teammates and coaches that we will bounce back and have a successful season."
"We made mistakes that we know we shouldn't make which led to a scoreline that didn't fully reflect the game. The New College of Florida did well and punished us in those moments. We are disappointed with individual and our overall performance, but I know the guys will learn from this game and start making good decisions in the right moments to get the results we are capable of," said head coach David Ashwood.
