HIALEAH, Fla. – The Florida College Women's Soccer team fell to the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers 3-2.
The game began with the Pioneers in full control, and they took the lead just seven minutes into the match when Caroline Taylor scored on a pass from Addie Hawkins. The game fell silent for a while with Spartanburg Methodist slowing down their attack. Florida College keeper Jillian Francis was determined to keep the Lady Falcons within striking distance as she made three saves in six minutes. However, in the 33rd minute Spartanburg would double their lead when Kennedy Olheiser scored on a pass from Kaylee Damsen. The half would draw to a close with the Lady Falcons trailing the Pioneers 2-0.
Determined is the only way to describe the Lady Falcons in the second half. They piled on the pressure to try and get within striking distance, and they struck gold in the 60th minute when Shannen Cheney scored to cut the lead in half. Unfortunately, just two minutes later the Pioneers would extend their lead to 3-1 on a strike from Caroline Taylor. Following this goal the Pioneers parked the bus in an attempt to coast to victory, but the Lady Falcons kept their determination and fought to the final whistle. Then seemingly out of nowhere Florida College's Angie Sciacca brought the Lady Falcons within one in the 87th minute. This game was not over yet and with one last chance Claribel Hernandez had her shot in the 89th minute saved, and the Pioneers survived taking the victory 3-2.
