Cheney Scores Game Winner Against New College of Florida

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Lady Falcons won a nail-biter against the New College of Florida on Tuesday. 

The Falcons came out strong in their home match against the New College of Florida Banyans with a goal by Paula Rincon Carrillo two minutes into the match. The momentum continued and captain Kendle Valido assisted Claribel Hernandez on the second goal of the match, Hernandez' sixth goal of the season. 

Both teams went scoreless the rest of the first half, and the Banyans came out of halftime ready to dominate the field. New College's Andrea Gonzalez took control of the ball in the second half and scored in the 46th minute. Minutes later, the Banyans tied the match with a goal from Nicola Taylor. 

New College added their last goal of the game in the 55th minute to take the lead. Valido was able to assist Victoria Fonseca on her second goal of the season to tie up the match 3-3. 

With four minutes left in the match, tensions were high and Kendle Valido took a corner kick that sealed the deal for the Falcons. Valido's placement created the perfect opportunity for Fonseca to head the ball into the goal, but was blocked by the Banyans. Shannen Cheney was able to tap the ball in off the block to secure the Lady Falcons' first win of the season. 

"We came out strong in the first half and dominated possession. They caught us off guard with a few changes at the half, but we adjusted and walked away with the win. I'm so happy with the progress we have made.
