TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Florida State University Seminoles Cross Country Invitational on Friday morning.
Freshman Easton Dial once again led for the Falcons and posted an 8k time of 27:58.7. He finished 201 of 342 runners. Josiah DeGeneffe came in second for Florida College in 251st place, followed by Jesse Boyd, Steven Ritchie, and Jack Bradford. As a team, the Falcons placed 28th of 31 teams above Bethune-Cookman, Edward Waters, and Beacon College.
The Lady Falcons placed 31st of 35 teams ahead of Bethune-Cookman, Central Florida, Lake Sumter State, and Edward Waters. Lily Hamlett finished in 275th place with a 5k time of 23:18.8. She was followed by Sophia Raif in 277th, Whitney Mathis in 279th, and Sierra Griffith in 281. Carlie Gainer closed out the final points for the Falcons in 299th place.
"With a faster course, a lot of our athletes showed big improvements. Lily Hamlett ran 1:30 faster than her last race and was our #1 women's runner for the first time. Jessica DeRemer also ran a big PR by over 3 minutes. For the guys, Jesse Boyd ran much better and was our #3 runner," said head coach Trenton Roth. "We have also had a couple runners coming off injury - Jack Bradford dropped 2 minutes from his last race, and Eli DeGeneffe looked good for his first race. We are looking forward to running up north in Alabama in a couple weeks where it will hopefully be cooler."
The Legends compete next on October 13 at the Calhoun Community College Warhawk Invitational in Danville, Ala. The women race at 4:30pm and men race at 5pm EST.
