Falcons Shutout Fort Lauderdale on Senior Night

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Falcons closed out their season with a 9-0 win over the University of Fort Lauderdale. 

Fort Lauderdale brought eight players to take on the Falcons in their senior night match and got burnt out early with how well Florida College was doing offensively. The Falcons were dominant in possession and scoring and hardly gave the Eagles the chance to attempt a shot.  

Six Florida College players' had shots that found the back of the net throughout the match, with two apiece from Gonzalo Irazusta, Nick Giesing, and Marin Klapuh

The Falcons took 40 total shots compared to the Eagles' five, with 23 on goal, forcing Fort Lauderdale's Andy Otero to make 14 saves throughout the match. Goalkeeper Markus Sundin posted four saves on four shots on goal to secure his final clean sheet of his collegiate career. 

At the end of the night, seniors Sundin and Klapuh were recognized for their accomplishments at Florida College. Sundin posted 127 saves as a Falcon and four clean sheets against competitors. He was named Continental Athletic Conference Player of the Week, made the 2023 CAC Academic All-Conference Team, and served as team captain. He also received the Florida College Men's Soccer Newcomer of the Year award in 2022. 

Klapuh scored 9 goals in his time at Florida College, with one of them being a game winning goal, and added three assists for a total of 21 points. 

This win puts the Falcons at a 7-8-1 overall record to close out the 2023-2024 season.
