Temple Terrace, Fla. - Florida College Men's Soccer secured a 2-1 victory over the Pensacola Christian Eagles on Thursday night.
In the first half of the game, both teams went scoreless, with Florida College attempting 7 shots and Pensacola Christian attempting 6. In the second half, Florida College made it on the scoreboard first with a goal by junior Jonathan Ojjih in the 61st minute. Tensions were high, and yellow cards were given to sophomores Charly Vargas and Austin Black, and then later to Eagles player RaMont Rhodes. Minutes later, the Falcons received their third yellow card of the night given to Jonathan Ojjih for a delay of game. With five minutes left in the match, the Eagles scored, forcing the game into overtime. Pensacola attempted 10 shots in the second half, with Florida College attempting 7.
Halfway through overtime, senior Anton Richard received a red card and the Falcons subbed in sophomore Juma Hijaz to take over as goalie in Richard's place. Richard ended the game with 6 saves and is ineligible for one game due to his ejection. Hijaz saved a shot attempt from the Eagles and forced the game into a second overtime, which ended three minutes later with a goal by senior Krist Berisha, assisted by junior Gabriel "Angel" Aguilera. Florida College and Pensacola Christian both attempted 17 shots each, with 8 on goal for the Eagles and 6 on goal for the Falcons.
Men's soccer travels to Lake Wales, Fla. on Saturday to take on Warner University at 7pm.
