Falcons Win Two on the Road

MACON, Ga. - The Florida College men's soccer team left on Friday afternoon, October 12th, on a trip to Georgia where they would face Brewton-Parker College on Saturday and Middle-Georgia State University on Monday. The Falcons were able to win both matches in what would turn out to be a very tough trip away from home.

Saturday, Florida College prepared for their match against Brewton-Parker, ready for the battle ahead. The Barons, however, had other plans for the first half as they were able to outshoot the Falcons 6-5 in the half and led at the break, 2-0. Despite the deficit, the Falcons came out flying in the second half, dominating the game in possession and shots 14-2 for the second half. Although FC was constantly on the attack, the tough Barons defense was not conceding any goals, but the pressure on the Barons was mounting as every minute went by. The breakthrough for the Falcons finally came in the 69th minute when Krist Berisha received a pass from Groutchov Pierre, with Berisha finding the bottom left corner of the net. All the momentum was with the Falcons and an equalizer was sure to come. With only 7 minutes left, Rene Garcia buried a spectacular diving header into the net from a curling cross by Kristopher Ospina, pulling the Falcons level and continuing the momentum in their favor. FC was not able to score before the end of regulation, which meant both teams would need overtime to decide the match. The golden goal came in the 99th minute as Davinson Mera was dragged down in the box, leading to a penalty kick awarded to the Falcons. Sorel St. Fleur, stepped up to the spot and sent the Falcons on to their first overtime win of the season in what would be one of the most exciting come from behind wins in program history.

Monday, October 15th, just two days after the previous match the Florida College men's soccer team would take the field again vs a well-rested Middle-Georgia State team. Despite having little rest and playing a fresh opponent, the Falcons were able to outrun and outgun the Knights, ultimately outshooting the Knights 15-2 and winning the match, 2-0. Both Goals came in quick succession in the second half, only 15 seconds apart from one another. Groutchov Pierre scored the first goal in the 75th minute, as he rounded the keeper on the dribble and finished low to the corner to break the deadlock. Davinson Mera, just 15 seconds later, scored the second goal, receiving a pass from Kristopher Ospina, Mera then set himself and pounded the ball into the net. The Falcons continued to push for more goals but were happy to settle with a 2-0 win on the road.
