Falcons Soar Over Eagles

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - Saturday afternoon the Falcons men's soccer team defeated the Eagles of Faulkner University, with the final score of 2-1. The win secures a 2-0 start in SSAC play for Florida College.

The Falcons, who just played a tough match Thursday afternoon, had to dig deep to provide the energy needed to defeat a very stingy Eagle defense. Florida College opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Groutchov Pierre found Davinson Mera inside the box, Mera finished with a spectacular diving header. This would be the only scoring of the first half, despite the Falcons outshooting the Eagles 4-0.

The second half started similarly to the first half with both teams battling in midfield to take control of the match. Midway through the second half, the Falcons had a flurry of chances, which produced some excellent saves from Faulkner keeper, Caio Calado. Despite the best efforts of a tough Eagles defense, the Falcons were able to score their second goal of the game after Pierre connected with Krist Berisha in the 71st minute to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead going into the closing stages of the match. The Eagles Augusto Camara was able to pull a late goal back in the 88th minute to give a glimmer of hope to Faulkner, but the Falcons took back control and were able to finish the match, leaving the final at 2-1.
