Falcons Fly By the Undefeated Banyans
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College men's soccer team redeemed themselves in a 5-2 win over the Banyans on Saturday.
The Falcons had their sights set on winning after a loss to the New College of Florida Banyans earlier this season. Sophomore Jhon Solis scored the first goal of the match in the 27th minute to secure his sixth goal of the season and fourth of the week. Less than a minute after, Banyan Gian-Carlo Kama tied the match with an unassisted goal to make the score 1-1. Soon after, sophomore Leo Hackett assisted Solis in his second goal of the night to take the lead for the Falcons. Florida College went into the half leading 2-1.
New College's Kama answered back with his second goal of the night in the 47th minute to once again tie the match 2-2. Florida College kept possession of the ball the rest of the game and put three more points on the board, with two from Jonathan Wilson. These were Wilsons' first career goals as a Falcon. Solis added one more goal for the night to obtain his second hat trick in a week.
"Our result against New College was one that was well deserved. We have started to play with the right attitude, mentality, and identity for longer periods. We have started to create our own momentum at a time when needed going into a congested schedule and with a number of conference games coming up," said head coach David Ashwood. "We still have moments where we drop the level of what's needed and that was reflected in the scoreline, but I trust the guys are building the right habits and starting to play in the way we need them to at the right time."
Solis was named the Continental Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week and NAIA National Player of the Week for his performances against Trinity Baptist College and the New College of Florida. He is the third Florida College athlete to receive this honor and the first for men's soccer. He had two hat tricks and scored on all shots attempted. Solis also added an assist, contributing 13 total points throughout the week.
This win puts the Falcons at a 3-4 record this season. They will take on (14) Florida National University on the road on October 5 at 10am EST.
